In the absence of the Adobe green check mark, how does a customer know to trust the validity of the document and signer?

How do we validate the signature if you go out of business or if we decide to move in a different direction?  Do you charge storage fees for the documents that have been signed? If so, how much?

Can documents be downloaded and stored at our location to eliminate the storage charge? How do we handle non-repudiation if we bring the documents in house?

Is the signature truly embedded in the document or is an image layered on top of the document? If it is layered on top, how is that signature and document integrity verified in the future? Can it be independently verified if you are no longer engaged?

Can a customer later verify the document and signature?  Is the signed document portable and still verifiable?

Can the signature or document be tampered with or manipulated?

Some of my agents/sales people/etc. are not technically savvy? Do they need to know how to prepare documents for signature?  If so, how long does it take to train my people to prepare documents?

Can you fully automate my processes so that manual preparation of a document for signing is not necessary? If so, what types of messaging/web services do you utilize to automate that process?

How do I scale to other departments and lines of business within my enterprise? How easy is it to integrate the eSign solution within my current environment?

Do users need to perform document preparation functions such as selecting authentication levels, location of signatures, editable fields, location of check boxes, etc.?

Do you allow me to have control over required fields, customer communication or signature experience?

Can you provide independent authentication of signers?  Is it a seamless part of your service or a separate add-on to be installed?

Do you allow me to centrally manage the authentication rules for each type of document? Do you permanently store secure audit logs of the authentication and document signing ceremony? Are those audit logs available for storage by us?

Hosted PKI

Do you utilize PKI in your solution? Do you issue digital certificates or is your customer responsible for obtaining and installing certificates?  If you utilize certificates in your solution, can you issue a certificate for each user or do you only utilize a single server certificate? What level of trust can your certificates provide? Are they trusted by the Adobe root, resulting in a green check? Are the private keys protected by hardware-based encryption devices?

If you don’t utilize PKI, how do you provide the benefits of this highly secure technology?

Does a user have to understand anything about PKI and digital certificates to benefits from its advantages?

If you use digital certificates, are the users tied to their own PCs or can they access their credentials from multiple machines?

How do you protect Personal Identity Information (PII)?  How do you protect a user’s private key or other signing credentials?

How do you encrypt private information in your possession? Do you utilize a software-based or hardware-based technology for encryption?

Infrastructure Free, Branding, etc.

Do you need to install any additional hardware or software on our desktops?

My customers know and trust my brand.  Can I have the customer experience include only my brand without any other branding?

Can the time stamp be trusted or is it possible for it to be manipulated? Can I manage the look and feel of the document presentation?
